The Next Best Thing

I don't know about you, but I'm really starting to feel the football deprivation sinking deep, deep down. My heart is lonely and eager for Fantasy Football season to barge through the front door, take me in its arms with a strong and powerful embrace and kiss me hard, right on the lips. Or, you know, something like that......

I know you might not care much for watching any sport other than football, so I'm here today to make some recommendations that might fill the void football season has left in our hearts and on our televisions sets.

Are these options as good as football? Well no, nothing is as good as good as football, but football left us right when we needed him most, didn't he?!? We can't keep wallowing in self pity, ladies. It has been 4 months and it's time to pull yourself together, put on some red lipstick and move on and find something else.

1. Golf

Not sure of the rules? I got you boo. Read here.
Or, check out my full feed of golf posts here

There are some big perks to watching golf on television. First, they only show you the good stuff. There are so many players on all 18 holes at any give moment, that they are forced to only show the things you need to see. It is like watching a football game where every play is a touchdown pass.

Want to test the golf waters? Start watching the Memorial Tournament on Sunday around 3pm EST on CBS. You'll just be watching the last 4 or  5 holes, which are the most exciting, and the leaderboard can change constantly.

OR... you can at least just tune in to see if Tiger playing us all.

2. Tennis

For a very confusing tutorial on tennis that won't help at all, go here.
For a full feed of tennis posts, go here

Tennis is one of those sports where watching the girls play is just as good, if not better, than watching the boys play. Our girl Serena is competing on the clay courts in the French Open FINALS tomorrow morning at 9am EST, against Czech Lucie Safarova. The French Open is a Grand Slam tournament, aka one of the 4 most important tournaments of the year. Serena is fun to watch, I suggest you set your alarm for this one.

If you want to see one of the best tennis matchups possible, you better tune your television to NBC right now, because world number 1 Djokovic is battling world number 3 Murray in the semifinals of the French Open.

3. The Belmont Stakes - Where History Could be Made

For a guide to horse racing, go here.
To see my full feed on horse racing, check this out!

It's a long shot, but history could be made this weekend! The Triple Crown, horse racing's most prestigious title, is when a horse wins the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont Stakes. Although many recently have come close, no horse has won the Triple Crown since 1978.

American Pharoah won both the Derby and the Preakness this year. Can he leg out the competition at the Belmont Stakes and grab the first Triple Crown in 37 years? Tune into NBC around 6:45 EST to find out!

---

If you think this list sucks, I guess you'll just have to find something or someone else to knock your door down and kiss you on the lips for the next 91 days. Byeeeeeeeeee

Always Clearly Define A Bet // The Story of Sarah + CB

I'm a very sore loser. If someone makes a bet with me and I'm beaten fair and square, well fine, ok. But if I see any kind of wiggle room or loop hole in your bet, I'm going to pounce. With that said, I have a little story for you....

Let's talk about me and CB and some of our first dates. If you don't know who I'm talking about when I say CB, go here

Since I'm sure you're dying to know, on our first date CB and I met for drinks in my hood at a bar called Twlight Lounge in Deep Ellum. A week later, we went on a second date when he took me to an FC Dallas soccer game with a few of his good friends. I thought this was pretty cute that he liked me enough, after just one date, to meet his friends!

Our courtship, for lack of a word from the 21st century, was all just so easy, so simple, so enjoyable. He didn't make me wait, just to play the game boys are supposed to play. After each date, I would have a text that night thanking me for the date, and then a text the next morning setting up the next date! So by the time that third date rolled around, I was pretty excited to get to see him again. The third date was when I started falling for the kid.

On our third date, we met at Lonestar Park to bet on the night's 9 horse races. I had recently gotten back from the Kentucky Derby, so level = expert would have clearly described my horse racing knowledge. I may or may not have had my own tutorial pulled up, The Girl's Guide: How To Bet On Horse Racing, every time I went to the betting counter. Cool, Sarah. You're so cool.

It was Saturday night, we had a few beers and were having an absolute blast. CB asked if I'd like to head down and watch the last race from the railing. Keep in mind at this point, we had not had our first kiss yet. When we got down to the railing, here is how the conversation went down.

CB: "We should make a bet on this last race. A bet between the two of us."

Sarah: "What do you have in mind?"

CB: "If my horse wins, you have to give me a kiss."

Sarah: "And if mine wins?"

CB: "Whatever you want..."

Sarah: "You have to take me to a Rangers game!"

Looking back, I'm sure he was hoping I would say I wanted a kiss too. But first off, in my defense, my mind always defaults to free tickets. Second, in my defense, I thought that was giving him the message that I'd like to see him again. I guess it didn't occur to me that a kiss also meant I'd like to see him again.

But the bets were in place, and the horses were off.

As they crossed the finish line, CB's horse finished in 2nd place. My horse died I think. Or took a bathroom break. Or decided to kick his horseshoes off, grab some popcorn and an umbrella drink and watch from the lido deck.

CB turns to me with this big grin on his face, and all I can think is what on earth is that grin for?

Sarah: "Ah well, neither horse won! Whomp whomp ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "
(and yes, i often say whomp whomp out loud

CB: "No my horse finished before yours, you owe me a kiss!"

Sarah: *goes HAM for no reason other than to attack loophole in bet. Screams...*
"WHAT??! NO NO NO. THAT IS NOT WHAT WE AGREED UPON. YOU SAID IF YOUR HORSE WON. YOUR HORSE CAME IN SECOND PLACE. IT DID NOT WIN. IF YOU'RE NOT FIRST YOU'RE LAST. NO, YOU LOSE. I LOSE. WE BOTH LOSE. THE BET IS NULL AND VOID. NULL AND VOID. GOOD DAY SIR."

CB:

I did want a kiss! Once I had realized what I had done -- pulled a Sarah -- I felt terrible!! That poor guy. He just had a girl, that he really liked, vehemently argue against giving him a kiss.

But it wasn't like that, in my mind, at all. It was because I'm a sore loser, and found a major loophole in his bet, and attacked without thinking. The kid didn't even try to kiss me goodbye that night. Heck, I'm pretty sure he didn't even so much as shake my hand. I think he may have even lightly jogged away from me after we said goodnight.

Thank god for the Rangers' bet I made, that made it clear I did want to see him again. To this day, we make bets all the time, and laugh about this story every time we do. But really, he should have clarified that the horse did not, in fact, have to finish in first place to win the bet.

Poor kid, just wanted a kiss from the girl he really liked, on their third date. Instead, he got the most violent defender of loophole horse betting of all time. #nailedit

What to Wear To A Game / Match / Race / Event...

In my perfect world, I would have a pair of tickets in my hand 24/7/365. I will go to any and all sporting events in Dallas. Well, that is too specific. I will go to any sporting event, period. There is living proof of this when I agreed to go to a soccer match on my second date with Chalupa Batman. I'm used to flexing my sports knowledge muscle in front of the guys. Heck, I am pretty proud to flex that muscle, I think it helps on dates! But this man took me to the one sporting event where I have absolutely no idea what's going on.  I guess it worked out ok in the end, huh?
Today, I thought I would compile a list of my recommendations, using past outfits and past blog posts, for what to wear to any and all sporting events!

Fan Friday: Getting Down and Derby

I told you I wouldn't make you wait furlong to get a full Derby recap.
.....

I hope you laughed at that.

Last Friday, I flew to Kentucky for the Kentucky Derby with Cottonelle. I headed directly from the airport to the hotel to get ready for the next day, and of course for a good night's beauty sleep.

Saturday morning, bright and early, I first took a selfie, then headed downstairs to catch our ride to the Derby. I had the pleasure of meeting three of the sweetest new friends, Erin, Whitley and Lindsay. At around 1:00 pm, we arrived at the Derby in style!

We were immediately greeted by Natalie, our Cottonelle host for the derby! Talk about Sarah's day of meeting new friends, right? Natalie couldn't have been nicer, or more welcoming! I mean, she took us straight to see the bathrooms. That is what you do with all new friends you meet, right?! :)

Did we get some weird looks talking selfies and group pictures in the bathroom, we did, yes. Thank you for asking. BUT WHO CARES WE WERE AT THE CATALINA WINE MIXER KENTUCKY DERBY. If there is one thing I've learned over the years, you shouldn't take yourself so seriously!

Our next stop was the Cottonelle clean room. This was where all of the celebrities walking the red carpet could freshen up, grab a cocktail if they like and even get a makeup touchup. The best celebrities were the ones that would stop and chat with Cherry, Cottonelle's spokesperson. Take Mary Wilson from the Supremes for example. What a good sport to come talk bums with everyone! As you can see from my only image of Mary, I do not have a paparazzi career in my future.

After the celebrity stalking died down a bit, we had some photog fun of our own in the green room!

And then we headed out to the red carpet where we met designer Kiel James Patrick and his fiance, Sarah. These two were so fabulous and impeccably dressed, plus they  humored us and agreed to pose for all 38 iPhones that wanted a picture! Group pics are hard....

But we eventually got it figured out!

We were then off to find the adorable mini Moet bottles we had been spotting all afternoon, followed by exploring the owners' suites on the 5th floor.... naturally.

About an hour before race time, we moseyed our way on over to our seats in section 111. What an incredible, incredible, incredible experience. I've been to a lot of sporting events, but nothing compares  (will ever compare) with this exhilarating 2 minute race.

And then it was time to go back to our normal homes, to our normal lives, living again as normal members of society. Thank you so much Cottonelle for giving this girl an experience of a lifetime. It was absolutely unbelievable, unforgettable and downright surreal.

-----

On another quick Fan Friday note since this has already been the longest post ever, can I please just say wow to that twitter party last night? Thank you so much to everyone who came out to play, and thank you so much to Ashten for co-hosting it with me! Dang you girls are hilarious, and good lord in heaven do you know your football. I was all smiles from ear to ear following along with #girlsgonedraft.
