The Best Songs of 2014 // The Worst Songs of 2014

I actually arrange my Spotify playlists by month, and each month I create a new playlist. Last year, for Helene's linkup I picked the best and worst country songs of the year. This year though, I thought I would just pick one song from each month's playlist that I still love, and one that if I hear one more time I might hurt someone. Why I ever put some of these songs on my playlist, the world may never know!

:::Best:::
Talk Dirty to Me // Jason Derulo
Jason Derulo is hit or miss for me. But this song, yup still dig it today!
Plus, 2 Chaaaaaiiiiiiinz!

:::Worst:::
Story of My Life // One Direction
Story of My Life by One Direction on Grooveshark
This was my jam when it first came out. I would basically scream this with all the windows up for fear of being judged. There is a chance I even facebook declared my love for this song. Then I heard it 4 million times and I have since moved on.

:::Best:::
Anything // Heldey
I think this song was released in 2013 but that is neither here nor there. Need a song that will make you feel you can take on the world (or the treadmill...)? Well this this is your go to.

:::Worst:::
Neon Lights // Demi Lovato
Neon Lights by Demi Lovato on Grooveshark
Loved it until I didn't. Sorry Demi, keep up the good work doe....

 :::Best:::
Take Me to Church // Hozier
Take Me To Church by Hozier on Grooveshark
I heard it last night... still jammed my face off to it. On an unrelated note, I'd like to see what this guy looks like with a hair cut. Thoughts on that anyone?

:::Worst:::
All of Me // John Legend
All of Me by John Legend on Grooveshark
Fun fact though, I once hung on his tour bus with my friend Magen
Cool story bro.
:::Best:::
Turn Down For What // Lil Jon, DJ Snake
Turn Down for What by Lil Jon & DJ Snake on Grooveshark
You think this wouldn't make the list? Psht.
Yeah right. Lil Jon is my bestie, remember

:::Worst:::
Rude // Magic!
Rude by Magic on Grooveshark
 Ears are bleeding
:::Best:::
 Eric Church // Cold One
Cold One by Eric Church on Grooveshark
Let's switch it up, and hit my country lovers for the month of May.
Eric Church is my man and he can do no wrong.

:::Worst:::
Brad Paisley // River Bank
River Bank by Brad Paisley on Grooveshark
I don't like anything Brad Paisley does and I plead temporary insanity during May for adding this to my playlist.
:::Best:::
 Miranda Mother Flipping Lambert
This is the month her CD Platinum was released, since I can't link all 16 songs, I'll link my favorite, Holding on To You!

:::Worst:::
Can't Get Away From A Good Time // Logan Mize
Can't Get Away from a Good Time by Logan Mize on Grooveshark
 Woof.
:::Best:::
Shut Me Up // Old Dominion
Can't Get Away from a Good Time by Logan Mize on Grooveshark
 If you are a country music fan, you'll love every song this band releases. They are song writers for some of your favorite artists too like Keith Urban, The Band Perry and Dierks Bentley. Plus, this song came out right around the time when I realized how I sounded talking about CB!

:::Worst:::
Hangover // PSY, Snoop Dogg
Hangover (feat. Snoop Dogg) by PSY on Grooveshark
Yeah scream hangover at me 487 times, that'll help.
:::Best:::
Jubel //  Klingande
Jubel by 2014 Master Hit Machine on Grooveshark
 This is one of those songs that you just want to run through a field with a billowy, flowing scarf like a Free People model.

:::Worst:::
All About That Bass // Meghan Trainor
I see no reason to link to this. You've heard it.
 Helene, it looks like a lot of our "worsts" are linking up!
Ok now things are going to get tricky, the Rap game went HAM in September....

:::Best:::
Or Nah // Ty Dolla $ign
Ty Dolla Sign - Or Nah (Explicit) ft. Wiz Khalifa & DJ Mustard by Ty Dolla Sign on Grooveshark
I'm a big big rap fan. Sorry mom.
A couple of months ago, Ty Dolla $ign was doing a show in Deep Ellum, and he came out of his tour bus right as CB and I were walking by.
He asked us where the courthouse was.... and we said we didn't know!!
*CUE THE ONE DIRECTION LITTLE GIRL SQUEAAAAL!*

:::Worst:::
Cool Kids // Echosmith
Cool Kids by Echosmith on Grooveshark
If you wanna be like the cool kids then just do it good god almighty.
:::Best:::
0 to 100 // Drake
0 To 100 / The Catch Up by Drake on Grooveshark
Real Quick. Real Quick.
Drake is my Miranda Lambert of Rap, he can do no wrong.

:::Worst:::
A Sky Full of Stars // Coldplay
A Sky Full Of Stars by Cold Play on Grooveshark
I'm sorry I've never gotten into Coldplay.
Nor have I ever liked Dave Matthews Band. Go ahead and get angry, I can take it.

:::Best:::
No Flex Zone // Rae Sremmurd
Ok but, they know better.
They. Know. Better.

:::Worst::: Maps // Marron 5
But that way he sings you though....
Youuuuuu-ewww
Youuu-ewwWW.
Youuuu-ewwWWWW
:::Best:::
I Don't F With You // Big Sean
(again, sorry mom)
I Don't F*ck With You feat. E-40 by Big Sean on Grooveshark
I don't pick the titles here mom, I'm really sorry.
I just enjoy a good jingle, ipso facto, this song made my list

:::Worst:::
Chandelier // Sia
Chandelier by Sia on Grooveshark
I think my issue with this song is that I get excited when it comes on, because I think it is a song I like, then I listen to 3/4ths of the song only to realize it is the worst song ever made.
--

Ok too harsh? Do you never want to party with me now?
Orrrrrrrr... can you not wait to party with me now?
Tell me how it is, I can take it!
(unless you have something negative to say about Miranda in which case go away)

  3. I really like Eric Church. He actually grew up near me and was friends with my cousin--they even jammed together a few times!

  4. I need to party with you just to hear some new music, clearly. I only recall, or have heard maybe 3 of these songs tops. Lil John and "Bass" being the two I have mostly heard.

    I just can't get into most new music lately - wow I sound like my dad. Unless it was released by say Pearl Jam, or Foo Fighters or a few more favorites in the past 2 years I probably haven't heard it. I need to be better about actively being on spotify and following people.

  5. I pretty much agree with all of your choices! I love Take Me to Church! Have you heard Matt McAndrew (from the Voice)'s version of it? So good.

  6. I agree with several of your picks, especially all the Drake love. However, DMB is my favorite band of all-time. It seems that more people HATE Dave than like him, but I'm one of those creepy psychos that has seen him 20 times in concert.

  7. I know a lot of people hate it, but I love Rude. Sue me.

  8. Ughhh, so sick of All About That Bass! I really never liked it, but then I started hearing it constantly everywhere and now it makes me stabby!

  9. Now take your worst songs and you just made my best songs list for me. LOL

    I'm sort of kidding. At least about one or two of them...

  10. I freaking LOVE Miranda. I love how you put this list together.

  11. 1. you must have a phenomenal memory because I have NO idea when songs come out haha and 2. I haven't heard of half of these so clearly I'm behind...

  12. I also love "Or Nah" and Ty Dolla $ign ("Paranoid" would be one of my best, btw). If Ty had run into me in Dallas, then I definitely could've told him. For once being an attorney would pay off!

    I hated "All About that Bass" from the first time I heard it. Love the message, the song is like fingers on a chalkboard for me.

    -Heather
    I do what I want.

  13. Jubel made my best list too! I'm obsessed with that song!

  14. I can't stand Take Me to Church and the only part of Talk Dirty I like is the saxophone. I still love All of Me. I haven't liked Rude EVER, I can't believe anybody actually does. I FREAKING LOVE River Bank. I can't believe that's a worst! While I don't hate All About that Bass at all, I'm not as WOOHOO about it as I was when it first came out, and it's played all the time so I understand that one on your list. I also still like Cool Kids, but I haven't heard it very much either.

    I wonder if my taste would be different if I listened to music more often. I only listen to it in the car, rarely on Pandora while cleaning or something.

  15. I don't get to hear a lot of new music. Due to where I live. I just discover cool kids like last month. I have to say Talk Dirty to Me // Jason Derulo is one of my favorite songs.

  16. We Spotify the same way, except I do it every few months. The lists are super random, but that's how i like it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I definitely agree with "All About that Bass", "Maps" and "Chandelier". I can't stand any of them! They make me a little nuts. haha! I actually really liked "Rude" and LOVE "All of Me". I don't know why but I like them both a lot. lol!!

  18. Wooooo my husband and I went to see Eric Church last weekend. FANTASTIC concert!! You should go if you ever get a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Great list Sarah! I am still loving Talk Dirty as well :) And I agree 100% with Eric Church and Miranda Lambert!!! But I am huge fan of Brad Paisley too. And I still love John Legend. Otherwise...we could totally rock out together! Happy Weekend!

  20. We picked some of the same worst songs as well! That Echosmith song was clearly written for middle schoolers, and middle schoolers only. Uggghh I definitely meant to include Maroon Five on there. Heard one Maroon Five song, heard them all!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Also, I'm not a huge fan of country, but I LOVE Miranda, and I find Brad Paisley to just be super obnoxious.
