Hey girl hey! I missed you guys yesterday. I had the day off work, but I spent it moving and unpacking. I gave myself a week to get out of my old apartment and into my new one. That being said, I didn't hire movers. Hashtag idiot. I came hobbling into work this morning, thankful for a day off from lifting boxes up and down and up and down and up and down.
Well you know the phrase, "You can't have it all"? Here are my pros and cons. For the record. The pros are way more awesomer. Shut up Words with Friends nazis, that is the word I want to use today, so help me God, I'm going to use it.
Pro: My new apartment in gigantic! I just keep saying over and over again, I have so much extra space for activities!! The dogs don't really know that I'm referencing one of the most underrated movies of our generation, Step Brothers. It is almost 1,000 square feet, compared to the 680 I had before. All you home owners may not be impressed by this, but for this little girl, I could not be more excited.
Con: My new commute. Old apartment took me 5 minutes to get to work. New apartment takes me 45 minutes with the crazy traffic. People don't know how to merge, or how to be kind and let people merge. Everyone is cutting each other off, honking, flipping the bird. I was a bit scared to tell you the truth. I have never had a job that required me to drive in a rush hour, I hope I get used to it quickly. Any veteran downtown travelers have any advice for me?
Pro: The view. The other side of my apartment building faces the downtown skyline and I was really bummed that they didn't have anything available with that view. I had succumbed into the fact that my new view was going to be the roof of ugly buildings and a poopy giant hospital. I gotta admit, I was way wrong. I can see fair park, I can see the famous Texas ferris wheel (middle right of this picture), I can see the cotton bowl, and the sunrise from my balcony this morning was breathtaking. I'm not one for getting up early and lounging before work, but to experience this beauty every morning, I may need to become an early riser. The first picture I snapped on the balcony before I left for work, the second is from my bed as I was waking up yesterday morning.
Con: Four flights of stairs. There are two elevators, but my dogs weren't having that. General peed in the elevator. GENERAL peed!!? The good dog peed. If the good one is peeing, I'm screwed. Guess I'll have great legs from these stairs in no time!
Pro: Location, Location, Location. I can walk to a kick butt dog park, I can walk to dinner, I can walk to bars, I can take the train almost anywhere I need to go on the weekend, plus I'm even closer to my friend Helene now, and won't need to do the walk of shame in the morning as I leave her guest bedroom! Actually scratch that last part, let's not rule anything out.
Con: I'm out of cons.
Pro: I'm so excited to decorate this bad boy. I love that two walls are already painted a pretty blue color. I'm going to hang pictures and whip out some Pinterest projects. I love this time right when you move in when you can make statements like that, even though they will probably never get done. I snapped a few pictures of the new place so far. There is a built in desk which makes my Social&Chic heart skip around with excitement. And the kitchen, well, it is a kitchen. Great microwave.
