The Gas Station Grapefruit Shandy

I’m currently writing this blog post in Pages — better known as Word, if you aren't a Mac user — because the airplane I’m riding on is apparently from the Stone Ages. There’s no wifi, and my seat is one of those single row seats where you’re simultaneously sitting in both the aisle and window seat. The armrests on my chair have somehow been torn off, and I’m just relieved I wasn’t around whenever (however) that happened.

Toto- I don’t think we’re flying Virgin anymore…

Just a side note, if you use blogger, you should NEVER copy and paste your blog post straight from Word or Pages, or any text editor for that matter. Doing so will destroy any existing text formatting, and your links and text will appear to be all messed up. If someone were to send you a word document, let’s say for a sponsored guest post, copy the text but paste it into the HTML tab, rather than just the normal text area. This will keep your blog and its formatting safe.

You see, the reason I’m on an airplane is because I’m heading to the great state of Tennessee to watch my Vols play in their footy-ball game against South Carolina. It’s the first time I’ve been to Knoxville since 2013 when I saw Tennessee lose a last-minute heartbreaker to Georgia at home. Fingers, toes, legs, arms crossed for a more desirable, celebration-friendly, outcome tomorrow!

Speaking of celebrating, let’s talk cocktails! When you travel via airplane to a football game — or to anywhere for that matter — you can’t bring that handle of vodka and fireball on board with you. At Tennessee, liquor stores are located relatively close to campus on the strip, but at many colleges in the bible belt you might have a hard time tracking down the hard stuff. So today, I wanted to make a cocktail that is not only tasty, but the ingredients can be found at the gas station.

The Gas Station Grapefruit Shandy
|| Ingredients ||

3 bottles Hefeweisen, or similar wheat beer
3 bottle grapefruit soda (I used Izze)
Grapefruit slices for garnish

|| Directions ||

Combine chilled grapefruit soda and beer in a pitcher, gently stir. Pour into cups and serve with grapefruit slice garnish.

Y'all this drink is ridiculously easy, and it tastes like magic. If you aren’t a beer drinker, this is the one beer for you. It tastes fruity but not too sweet. Three ingredients, all found at the gas station! Easy peasy, right?

But in true tailgate form, you’d never use glass cups right?? What do you think, I’m some kind of rookie over here??

I hope you guys will follow along, via snapchat and instagram, as I travel back to my alma mater for what I hope to be a bomb girl’s week! Peace out Dallas, next stop ROCKY TOP!
