The Vegas Challenge

For one month, from November 16th - December 16th, CB and I are going to compete in a challenge against each other. The motivation behind this challenge stems from our upcoming trip to Vegas on December 17th for my birthday. You see, I've never been to Vegas before, and CB is taking me there for my 29th birthday.

He's somewhat of a Vegas expert, traveling there to compete in countless poker tournaments back in the day. He used to play, and even beat, the best of the best in poker. That really impresses me, seeing as I have no idea how to play any table games and stay away from them with the same diligence that I stay away from Northpark Mall the week before Christmas.

My mom -- hi mom! -- actually just returned from a trip to Vegas where she won two free nights at The Signature at MGM Grand, and was kind enough to gift them to us for our trip! So we'll be there Thursday and Friday, then staying at a newer hotel, The Linq, on Saturday. I've already been feverishly googling and pinteresting everything and anything there is to do and see in Vegas. Please, please, please hit me with your suggestions on can't-miss, Vegas fun!

Back to our challenge. As you may remember, before I met CB I had been very serious about my fitness and eating healthy. The more we started dating, the more fun we started having, and the less effort I made to get to the gym. I really just wanted to spend all of my free time with him, and honestly still do even today. CB is in the same boat. He was working out before he met me, and it all pretty much just fell by the wayside.

We've both decided it's time to get serious again, but need some extra motivation. I came up with the idea of creating a gym challenge for the two of us. Whoever has the higher number of trips to the gym -- minimum stay of 30 minutes -- wins. The loser then has to take the winner out to dinner one of the nights in Vegas.

As added motivation for myself, I also joined a Dietbet game that starts on Tuesday. I've had a ton of success doing Dietbet in the past, and I'd love it if you'd come join me! We can cheer each other along.

Speaking of cheering along, I hope you'll cheer me on to a win against CB. The man beats me in everything, and I am DETERMINED to win this one. I might be determined, but it never hurts to have a little support from your girlfriends. Heck, I think that's why I did so well last time I began a fitness routine! Starting Monday, I'll be snapchatting my check-ins at the gym, as well as the scoreboard as we go along.

LET'S GO TEAM SARAH!!!!

  1. This a great idea! My boyfriend and I started dating about 11 months ago, and I've gained 10 pounds since then. He has some weight he wants to lose too, so a competition would be a fun way for us to both shed some pounds! Good luck!

  2. That is an excellent idea. My hubby and I are both fairly competitive and we both have a lot of weight to lose. We have been together for 6 years now, and every year, we gain more weight. True love and not feeling like you have to impress someone will do that to you, but at some point, we all have to get our butts back in gear. haha.

  3. I love this idea!! And obviously you are going to win. Nothing between you and a fabulous Vegas dinner. I go to Vegas quite a bit since it's 3 hours from where I live and nothing beats the brunch buffet at the Wynn on Saturdays and Sundays. For dinner I have heard The Palm inside Caesar's is better than amazing.

  6. Such a great idea to get motivated to work out! My husband and I have fallen off the wagon lately, and this would be the perfect way to get us back in the groove of working out! So exciting that you'll be going to Vegas for the first time! You're going to have a blast!

  7. You got it! Cheering you on with my gimpy foot. The longest I've gone without working out and not being pregnant, hehe.

  9. This IS really a great idea! I would love to do this with my boyfriend....but problem with that is I know I would win. I don't go to a gym but I at least go for walks and workout at home, and if I don't do an actual workout, I try to do pushups and crunches for a few reps of each.... he doesn't work out and got laid off a few months back and he went from a 2x to a 3x and still a 2x in some shirts! It is really a turn off. we've been together for five years and the way he eats and how unhealthy his lifestyle is, is one of the things that's been an issue for us. Lately he has been saying he wants to change but saying, and doing are two totally different things. all he does is sit on his butt and play video games all day.... let's just say he has mastered the new guitar hero in a month...and if he put all this energy into getting a job or working, he would be a millionaire lol...
anyway, I meant to leave an actual comment not just complain about my life lol-
so I meant to say this is a great idea. and happy early birthday~! I am 31, but I have been '29' for the last few years lol. also, I would so love to go to vegas! I have never been anywhere too interesting besides niagra falls and Orlando FL. I am from Massachusetts, so I have been all over new England and my state but not too far besides Michigan/Chicago, flew to florida, and drove to south Carolina twice and Washington DC/Virginia areas once.
it's funny you say how you both were athletic/went to gym before and then got comfortable and wanted to be together etc. I think that happens in a lot of relationships. it happened in mine except I got bigger and then got pregnant and he got bigger and bigger as well lol. I keep going back to working out. So I manage to never get 'big' but I am still bigger than I would like to be because I am 'comfortable' ... I am going to hit him up with this idea and maybe see if that will motivate him. But being from MA also really stinks because now it is 'winter' weather and no one likes being outside in the rain and cold...
anyway- happy early bday. I will check out this dietbet thing! take care :)

  10. Aaaah what a brilliant challenge. I love it!! I've actually been the same since I met my boyfriend, and in the last 6 months or so it's really stressed me out. So a few weeks ago, I started getting serious about eating healthily and working out (I joined ToneItUp). But I can't seem to get my boyfriend to do the same. Maybe a challenge is exactly what we need... Oh and I'm definitely rooting for you girl. If you need another accountability buddy, I'd love to work-out (virtually) with you xx

  11. What a good idea! I'll be rooting for you and hey, maybe I'll get my ass to the gym to root for you there!

  13. I am seriously SO excited you're getting to go to Vegas for the first time. It is most definitely one of my favorite cities to visit!!! I already recommended Secret Pizza, but also Fat Tuesdays (nothing like any FT in other cities - lots more alcohol) and Gordon Ramsay Steak, if you want to splurge on a fancy meal!

If you're interested, I'm hosting a challenge group on FB starting December 1st. I think it would be perfect to keep you motivated for those last couple of weeks!!

  14. I, too, have a relationship based on competition so I can definitely relate! Love it! :)

  15. I joined a new gym about two weeks before I met Chris last year. I have gone exactly once. I am still paying for the membership. I either need to quit, or actually use the freaking thing. But, Chris and I are in the same boat as you and CB. A year and a half later and we still actually LIKE spending all our free time together. We're so cheesy, I know.

  16. What a good and fun challenge!! I grew up 120 miles away from Vegas, I've been there so many times I know it like the back of my hand. Sampling cokes from around the world at the Coca Cola factory near mgm is super fun!!

  17. good luck! and i think using amount of times at the gym versus pounds lost is a great challenge idea. make us girls proud and make sure you win! :)

  19. Good idea!

As for Vegas, make sure you see at least one show of the Bellagio water fountains. I think they run every 1/2 hour during the day and every 15 minutes in the evenings. Its amazing! Best buffet.... the Wicked Spoon at the Cosmopolitan. I suggest going for brunch, that way there are some breakfast foods but a lot of lunch and its cheaper than dinner! If you want to see a show, they have a lot of booths called "half price tickets" where you can get cheaper tickets to a lot of the shows on the day of. The cirque de soliel (sp??) shows are always amazing. I really liked Mystere at Treasure Island.
