Things To Do In Dallas || Take a Ride on the Dallas Brew Bus

Things to do in dallas, The Dallas Brew Bus

CB has been begging for me to make a pretty graphic for our house (kind of like my "Dallas Neighborhood" print in my gallery wall)  that lists all of the pizza places and all of the breweries in Dallas. Then we can insert a push pin or check off each one after we visit. I think this is a great idea, and after this past weekend there is really no excuse for me to not make this idea come to life.

This past Saturday we got the chance to experience the Dallas Brew Bus. The Brew Bus is a big yellow school bus that takes you around to three different breweries in the DFW area, where you get to try four samples of beer at each brewery. Each month, a new round of breweries is featured. For the April tour we visited Bitter Sisters, Grapevine and Community Brewery.

Brewery tours here in DFW are generally on Saturday afternoon, cost around $10 - $12, and you receive 3-4 drink tokens to sample their craft beer. It's a great bargain, and in exchange you get a good buzz going, great beer and a lot of fun with friends. My favorite DFW tours I'd previously visited before riding the Brew Bus include Deep Ellum Brewery (bet you never would've guessed that), Rahr, Four Corners and Revolver. I'd been to Community before, and was excited to try Bitter Sisters and Grapevine!

I learned on the Brew Bus that the Dallas craft beer scene has ballooned to include 40+ craft breweries. My pizza and beer map might end up being a large scale mural rather than just a simple print.

We hopped on the Brew Bus at 1130am, and headed off to our first stop, Bitter Sisters.

Bitter Sisters is located in Addison, just on the outskirts of Dallas. They had a few really delicious options on tap, but my favorite was a special Bourbon Barrel Aged "Knock Out" which was an Irish Red Ale they had available.

They had plenty of games to play, including the most simple -- yet highly addictive -- game ever invented. All you do is throw a ring at a hook. That's it, that's the whole game. CB tried his best, but came up short -- and long, and right and left

See? Throw ring... at hook:

We learned how they brew their beer and got a tour of the place before heading to our next destination.

We loaded back on the bus and headed for Grapevine Craft Brewery. On the bus we were handed some INCREDIBLE pastrami sandwiches from a restaurant just down the street from where CB and I live called Luck. Maybe it was those first 4 mini beers talking, but that might have been the best sandwich I've ever had.

Although it was a pretty good distance from where we live in Oak Cliff, Grapevine Brewery will for sure be worth another visit. No detail was missed from the beer to the decor. I absolutely loved everything about this little tap room.

We tracked down a game to play while we sampled for more mini beers.
My favorite?  Their double IPA. So very tasty.

It's safe to say we were all feeling very good as we made our way back to our final stop, Community Brewery. Community is gigantic and one big Dallas style party. They had day 3 of the Masters playing on a huge projection screen, cornhole (where CB and I went undefeated) and live music.

On our Brew Bus there were people celebrating a birthday, and even a bachelor party. Whether you live in Dallas, or are just visiting for a weekend, I would highly recommend grabbing a spot on the Dallas Brew Bus. It's a great way to see a few new breweries, explore DFW and have a great time with your best friends!

In conclusion: YAY beer!

  3. How fun! I loved Deep Ellum Brewery when I visited and I'm jealous that Dallas is still willing to provide deals to get people to come in and try new breweries. The craft beer industry is so insane in Colorado that you have to pay full price for everything!

Sidenote: Right after Brian and I started dating he took me to a bar with the ring game and proceeded to blow my mind at how good he was at it. I eventually figured it out but I've never seen it anywhere else except the one bar we've played at :)
