Deep thoughts with Sarah.... Vol 134

Skinny PiƱa Colada Recipe: here

Do you ever see something someone else has done and you're hit with a giant brick of jealousy? This happened to me yesterday when I was catching up on one of my favorite blogs, A Beautiful Mess, and saw the new bar that Emma had opened up in Missouri, The Golden Girl Rum Club.

Every picture of her (actually, I believe it is their bar -- she opened it with her husband) wow'd me. I mean I was just sitting at my laptop SO JEALOUS. No detail was missed, the space is perfect. I mean it, it's totally perfect.

I sat there and thought how amazing it would be to own a bar. Man, would I love to build a bar from the ground up, and pick every single last detail from the floors to the counter tops to the glassware. When I was in Nashville a couple of months ago, I joked to Helene that I wanted to open up an Instagram bar. Everything would cater to your instagram photos.

Marble countertops at the bar.

Subway tile on the walls.

All cocktail height, white tables paired with stainless steel bar chairs

Bright yellow doors.

Succulent centerpieces on every table

Floor to ceiling windows that let ALL OF THE NATURAL LIGHT  in.

Some sort of cute saying embedded in the tile work in the bathroom. Perhaps, "Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe".... (I'll work on that one)

Bloody Mary's piled high with the most delicious snacks known to man -- maybe even a slice of pizza...

Boozy snow cones in a spectacular range of colors -- yellow, purple, blue, red, green, orange, pink

A pup friendly, off-leash backyard patio filled with yellow picnic tables and a walkup bar.

Ok, I'll work out some of those details. I think I'm a little all over the place. As I was envisioning being behind my perfect Instagram bar, patrons pulling up a seat while I toss them a black and white striped cocktail napkin and ask, "What'll it be? Rose all day?" I snapped back to reality and sighed... ahhh, if only

I brushed the idea away and assumed it was something I could never do. How would I ever afford such a thing? Sure I've worked in restaurants for a good 10 years of my life, but I have no experience running a bar. Ahhh, if only I was Emma from ABM.

Something I often struggle with is a worry that I have no clue what passion I could turn into a career. People always say, "Choose a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life." What do I love? I love hanging out and snuggling with CB on the couch, like I LOVE that. There is literally no possibility of that becoming a career. I love watching football. I love cocktails and pizza.

Wait. Would I LOVE owning my own little unique bar? I dunno. I certainly seem to have a lot of thoughts on it that I was able to list. I might even have already done a rough sketch on a menu design, you know, for fun. The idea of owning a bar makes me giddy, but it makes me feel like a silly dreamer.

Why? Why couldn't I do that?

I could market it.
I could design it.
I could grow it on social media.
I've watched so many Bar Rescue marathons that CB would probably rather make himself physically ill instead of watching that show one more time.
I could kill it with a bar.

So why couldn't I do that?

Deep thoughts with Sarah.... Vol 134.

  1. Girl, I have more dreams about opening a fun bar than any other type of dream. The one thing that gets in my way is that silly money thing. Dream all I want, I'd need to get serious about finding people to support the bar and invest. And that means talking money with people and ugh, no thank you. Let me know if you open it and I'll make a trip to Dallas ;)

  2. you should do it and I would be there every step of the way!! also just looked at the bar... wow.

  3. My dream is to open a coffee shop!! I have NO clue how to make it happen or if it ever will, but I think that would be so awesome to own a coffee shop!

  4. DO IT! Call it Hashtag Drink. :D YASSSS

  6. HOLY beautiful bar. I really think you can do've got the dream and the vision and if it looks anything like your desk, I'm THERE!

  7. You could totally do it. This is one of those things where you have to work hard and sacrifice, but it can definitely happen.

  8. Ok, now I'm going to say something that will make you roll your eyes but hear me out!! 3 years ago I literally couldn't run a block. If someone had suggested to me that I could run a marathon I may have keeled over with laughter. Even when I started running, and started dreaming about running a was just that. A dream. Something nice to do "some day". Let me tell you that training for and running a marathon literally changed my life. Here's why: it made me realize that literally no dream is too big if you want it bad enough. When I started running, I wasn't a runner capable of running a marathon. But with the right plan, dedication, and support....somehow, I turned into a runner who could. Twice. You can apply that to anything. Sarah, maybe you're not at a place to open your bar tomorrow or even next year, but if you want to do it, YOU CAN. You can become the blogger who opens the bar. You just have to make yourself a roadmap. I truly believe it!! Let me know how I can support you :)

  9. I love that idea! I saw someone comment about wanting to open a coffee shop. My mom and I always talk about opening a coffee shop across the street from our house. The building used to be a drugstore and has been vacant for YEARS. I think it's a perfect spot for a little coffee shop. Now I just need an investor.

  10. I'm with everyone else. I think you should do it.

  11. Girl, if you opened a bar, I would travel all the way there just to check it out! I have so many dreams and things I want to accomplish, so much jealousy for others... It's a good motivation as long as it doesn't cloud your judgement. You can do anything you set your mind to :)

  12. DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT. PS the bitch don't kill my vibe embedded in the tile does not need rethinking. It stays.

  13. You would absolutely KILL IT. You would rock it so hard. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your idea. Do it. For reals. Don't sit around thinking about how hard it will be. Just do it. I am totally going to take my own advice now and try to find my passion and just do it. :) Thanks, lady!!

  14. I think you should TOTALLY open a bar. I would totally live at a bar like that if it were near me (and not crazy expensive....) Also LOL a bar from my town was on Bar Rescue the other weekend. It's really embarrassing lmao. I may or may not have spent a few ladies nights (ladies drink free, cmon!) there.

    1. also I wish you came to my town for some random reason (tampa bay florida) cause I would definitely take you to a few bars downtown that are dog friendly. One bar even has a mural outside of all the local dogs that are regulars. It's amazing. I feel like you would love it.
