Yeah, But You Should See The Other Guy!

About a year after scoring my first big girl job out of college (THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE, DUH!) I promptly bought a new car. There was nothing wrong with my other car, it just wasn't a new car. You know the drill. Clearly better to have a car payment than no car payment at all right?!

Right?

Hello?

Anyone?

*crickets*

I have a terrible habit of getting my mind set on something and clinging to it harder than J-Simpson clings to CiCi's Pizza Bar.

Tuesday at 7:01am : "Oh a new car would be fun!"
Tuesday at 7:14am : "Hey everyone, come look at my pretty new car!"

Car #1
Oh, excuse me while I weigh lots-o-pounds.... I ate my buyers remorse feelings (clearly) after purchasing this car.

Oh, well, then this happened about 3 months after that car up there was purchased....

My Macbook Pro was in the front passenger seat. She really got hurt. But she is a sport because I'm currently blogging on her right now.

Yeah, but you shoulda seen the other guy!!!!
No one else was even remotely injured.

So after an accident like that, you would think that I would never touch a Hyundai Elantra ever again, right?

Right.

So here is the car I bought to replace that car.... because as you can see, that car was more than likely not drivable. Like, at all.
Oh, wait....

I figured that car had to be pretty durable. I lived. So I got another one.
And plus, I've had my fair share of car troubles by now, right God? I'm done?
Oh wait...
Did I mention the navigation/radio/satellite sound all mysteriously went out last week?
Cool, Hyundai. Cool.

  18. My family was a Hyundai family forever. Great cars. (My Sonata looked similar to yours after my wreck in 2011.) But now that Kia has totally overhauled their cars, I drive a Optima. It's AMAZE-balls. And now there are 2 other Kia's in the family. But, they are owned by Hyundai, so it's all the same!
    Glad you're OK!

  19. My husband refuses to let me get a Hyundai or Kia because they are unreliable. My Mazda held up really well when I got in my accident

    ReplyDelete
  20. That's terrifying, sorry you had to experience that! No more Hyundai's for you!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ummm... Holy smashed car. I'm so happy you made it out OK (and your macbook).

    ReplyDelete
  22. You look way too happy to be in a head contraption haha

    ReplyDelete
  23. i have the same car, but in black! and 3 weeks after i purchased it i was rear ended. not nearly as bad as your crash, but still. it must be a curse or something. telling me i should have bought a used one with lower payments!

  24. Thats how I was with my Ford Focus. I'm on Focus #2.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Omgosh how did that even happen?! Seems you were very lucky you weren't hurt even more.

    ReplyDelete
  26. SO SCARY! I'm glad you were okay! sheesh! ...and also that your Macbook made it. phew!

  27. omg you got hit by a truck!?! how fucking terrifying! that must be such a story to tell... glad you were ok :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. That is SO scary! So glad you are okay!! Did you buy the car in the exact same color?

    ReplyDelete
  29. So glad you were ok!! Just traded in my Elantra so I could get my Veloster. But I loved her.

  30. Yikes to that accident! I have survived two accidents like that- both in Toyota Celicas. After that, I bought a PT Cruiser, a Jeep, and now my bug. No accidents in any of those, but two totaled Celicas taught me to stay away. Haha!

*excuse me while I weight lots-o-pounds. Hahaha!

  31. Holy shiz with the crunched car!! And seriously-- does Hyundai have the most delicate tires ever?? Mine went flat a few weeks ago too!

    ReplyDelete
  32. i feel like a big asshole now for claiming to be near dead when i got into that fender bender a couple months ago. lol

    ReplyDelete
  33. im glad you are ok, that is some scary shit!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. That accident is no bueno! You are a total trooper to be taking pictures while all laid out.

Stick with Toyota and Hondas for future reference!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ah that is SO SCARY! I'm glad you and the Macbook were okay! I've only had car accidents where I hit other non moving objects because I am what they call.. clumsy or something. I really want a new car bc I am bored with mine BUT it's almost paid off so I must be patient haha.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh my gosh, that is so scary - the crash picture gave me shivers!! I'm traumatized when it comes to cars because my sister was in a bad crash many, many years ago (although everyone came out with very minor injuries) - I was thousands of miles away, and I still won't go near the driver's seat hahaha

  37. Dude, I really think it's just Hyundais in general. My second car was a Hyundai Tiberon... an old school one. Even though it was an automatic, she {Francesca} liked to pretend she was a manual. She would stall out at traffic lights and would shut off when she damn well pleased. It was really, really fantastic. And by fantastic, I really mean hell.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Let me throw it out there that I'm glad that you and the Macbook made it out ok. However, I may have busted out laughing at the picture of you in the head brace thing...oops.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ok but that description of you around 7am -- that is my life! And that will be me upon discovering something that I didn't even realize existed until minutes earlier, but then I HAVETOHAVEIT!

So glad you (and MBP) were OK ... next time I highly recommend jeeeep! (Mine's name jeepy, bc i'm SUPER creative)

  40. You are probably the most cheery person ever to have been on a stretcher hahaha.

  41. So Scary! I totally paid off one car and bought another a few months later... totally had this whole plan to have no car payment for like... ever, and then somehow 2 seconds later I bought another. Dumb. So, so dumb. But, I love my car & can't give it back now so... oh well!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think we're all wondering how on earth that accident happened??!

    ReplyDelete
  43. That is terrible, I sorry! Maybe its time to try a different brand, seems like you and your Hyundai aren't good friends.

  44. OH MY GOSH! Glad you are safe for one... and it looks like from the photo it wasn't your fault.
Although I feel the same way with you about a new car after graduation. They say that is the first thing new grads buy is a new car :/
I bought mine in the same fashion awhile ago while in college ha, oh look at that car... I need one... okay lets look at it... drives away in car a few hours later. :p

  45. JESUS. I'm glad you were okay, that's insane! Cars are so annoying. Like, literally my iPhone can tell me where I am and where to ditch a dead body, but my car can't fly yet..? What is this shit?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Holy crap those are scary accident pictures. I drive a Hyundai too and I LOVE my car!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Holy crap lady! That accident. That looks like one hell of an accident. glad you are ok. Cars are a pain. Mine is currently *knocks on wood* doing alright, but it has quite a lot of miles. So I am worried a new car is in my future in the next 12months :/

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oh my , that seems pretty terrible ( insert more terrible expression) . Cars are my love and I am broken to see what just happened to your oldie babe *tears*

  51. I used to have a car obsession too.
I definitely think you need to pick a different model next time :P
Those crash photos are intense looking, thank goodness you lived!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Woaaaaaah... that poor car! (And poor you obviously, but seriously, look at the car!)

I have the same issue as you do buying wise. If I think 'Oh, I want one of those' I have usually bought it within the next 5 minutes. Never mind, at least we will always be surrounded by beautiful things... (and credit card bills, uh oh!)

  53. Ugh, this happened to me. I bought a new Mitsubishi Eclipse (ok, it was two years old, but new to me) and I love it! I had it for about 2-3 months and got into an accident with a Suburban! Ciao Ciao Eclipse :(

  54. OMG that picture of your smooshed car freaked me out. Glad you're okay and lived to tell about it. I have a parked car accident story too but mine is way minor compared to yours. Girl driving daddy's duely in high school parking lot (yes we're a bit hick-ish in Wisconsin sometimes) backed into my mom's car after I just parked it and was sitting in it. Obviously girl can't drive and shouldn't be driving a truck that big. I was especially livid cuz I didn't like the girl to begin with but that just added fuel to the fire.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dear God that car photo is terrifying! But hey, it clearly protected you well enough, so why not go for another!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have a Hyundai Accent and I was hit by two separate drivers in two separate incidents a week apart.

But I love my Hyundai and I will totally buy another one when the time comes.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Holy shit! How did that even happen?! It looks like you're parked. Glad you made it relatively unharmed, and MacBook too!
