The Best and Worst of 2013

Yesterday I screamed all over my blog that it was my birthday, and I can't wait to do a birthday recap post from all the festivities over the weekend! I even managed to hold off on posting pictures to Instagram so that I would have fresh blog content! That will have to wait until tomorrow though, because when Helene hosts a linkup, you know I'll be there to support her! So here goes! My best and worst songs of 2013... Country version!
Helene in Between

I'm sure I've mentioned how much I love country music. I actually have a love for all types of music from rap to classic rock to southern rock to pop and even oldies, but country music is where my heart resides. Plus I figured everyone else would link up pop and rap songs, so I like to be different. Just like my teachers told my mama, that I was a bit different from everyone else. I know country music haters think all of the songs are just southern twang with lyrics jammed in about drinking with your dog, and they'd be right.... but I really love drinking with my dog, is that so wrong?

My Picks for Worst Country Music Songs of 2013

Number 5...
Crash My Party by Luke Bryan
I hate Luke Bryan, I like to refer to him as the poor man's Jake Owen. Go ahead and yell at me, I just hate him. I think he sounds like he has a little man sitting up inside his nostrils crying, and he calls that singing. Everyone thinks he is hot, I think he looks like a horse, and I mean that as an insult to the horse.

Number 4...
Somebody's Heartbreak by Hunter Hayes
I've been through heartbreak, Mr. Hayes. I don't wish that on anyone. "If you're lookin to be somebody's just friends, please be open and honest about that upfront and don't waste my damn time" ...should be the lyric.

A minute with you is not better than two without. I'd rather know the details upfront and not enter the danger zone if you are just going to screw me over. Dumb song. Get outta here Hunter.

Number 3...
Chillin It by Cole Swindell
Good Lord in Sweet Heaven this song is tuuurrrible. You're cute though, snaps for being cute. That is why you are number 3 not number 1.

Number 2...
Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show Darius Rucker
I'm all for song remakes... oh wait, no sorry I worded that wrong... I'm not at all for song remakes. This is a classic song and I will not support Darius with this one. I like Hootie, but he can't hold my hand through this rendition.

Number 1...
Redneck Crazy by It doesn't matter his name because he'll never do anything else (I hope)
This just makes the south look bad, bro. Worst song of 2013, and by 2013 I mean of all time.

My Picks for Best Country Music Songs of 2013
These are just my favorites, of course I'm no expert, I just like to bop my head up and down to these songs with the windows down in the car.

Number 5...
Drink to that all night by Jerrod Niemann

Number 4...
Downtown by Lady Antebellum

Number 3...
Dierks Bentley- I hold On
You sing it Dierks. Beautiful song tribute to his father.

Number 2...
Days of Gold by Jake Owen

And my number one song I'm sure will come as no surprise to anyone...
Number 1
Everything Miranda Lambert has done in 2013 (more specifically) All Kinds of Kinds
I think by now we all know that I have a not so innocent girl crush on Country music's resident bad ass M.

  2. hi, you're the best. I listened to the worst songs... I can see why they're the worst. that luke bryan song. hahaha. clapping my hands right now about wagon wheel. I love downtown by lady antebellum!!! such a jam. and if you like miranda, i like her.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I love luke bryan, but we can still be friends. however, I do enjoy that jerrod niemann song and dierks bentley's song too.

  4. I just don't understand your thinking about Luke. It breaks my heart. But that's ok. I still love you. And of course Miranda is number one. Love her.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I like Darius Rucker much better when he was Hootie, Wagon Wheel or no Wagon Wheel can I just get Hootie and The Blowfish back already?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Ok buuuuut you're crazy cause Luke is hot. Agreed about Wagon Wheel, not that Darius doesn't do it well but the fact that some people think it's a Darius original. Are you kidding me? Get off my island.
    Miranda always wins.
Yes, I'm on a first name basis with country stars, it's fine.

  7. Luke bryans voice is like nails on a chalk board to me. The twang is just far too thick.

And that redneck crazy song gives the country hating nation a reason to hate us more. It is the epitome of a terrible heart break song. It would easily make my no. on the worst songs.

  8. Oooo I love me some Miranda! I think Blake Shelton would be on my list, too, though!

  9. Omg. Love. This. Yay for country music! I agree 100% on all your choices. And THANK YOU for not liking Luke Bryan. He looks like the bi-product of an incest family. I'm pretty certain his parents are brother and sister. I refuse to watch him perform on any award show because he pelvic thrusts and swirls his hips.. gross. If the Redneck Crazy guy makes another "hit" song.. I might cry.

  10. I can stand Wagon Wheel, I can't stand that people think he actually wrote it. I miss Hootie though... And with Redneck Crazy man... It's like they sit and say "I failed at this, and that, and that, oh well...guess I'll be a country music star."

    ReplyDelete
  11. BUT SERIOUSLY! THE MUSIC DOESN'T EVEN FIT WITH THE LYRICS OF REDNECK CRAZY!!!!! TURRRRIBLE

  12. At first i misread and thought your worst songs were the best songs and i started to think a little less of you. Then i got it all straightened out and i couldn't agree more. The country song that grew on me the most was Boys Round Here by Blake Shelton... at first I didn't like it but after listening a few times I couldn't get enough! Glad we're on the same page about Wagon Wheel - song remakes can sometimes make me irrationally angry and that's what happened with this one.

  13. THANK YOU for putting Redneck Crazy on this list! I can't rant enough about how much I HATE that song. Worst song ever ever ever made!

  14. HAHA - yes, agree fully on Hunter Hayes.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Best description of Luke Bryan songs I have ever read. You go, Glenn Coco.

  16. You're crazy, Luke is handsome! Jake Owen needs to wax his eyebrows. Absolutely love Drink to That All Night & I Hold On!

  17. I was at a country music festival this summer and did not understand the obsession everyone had with Hunter Hayes and that song! Totally agree love me some Miranda and Lady Antebellum! Hope you had a great birthday and got some pictures of you blowing glitter into a camera! Looking forward to the pictures tomorrow:)

    1. THANKS LOVE!! No glitter pictures, but there is still time in the month...... :)

  18. Redneck Crazy is the worst, worst, worst of all time worst!!! THANK YOU! And anything Miranda does is gold, so your #1 choice will always be acceptable. Because she's Miranda and duh.

  19. Wagon Wheel is always playing at the bars at school. It kills me!

  20. Luke Bryan = vomit. And God bless Miranda Lambert. I just want to hug her and drink with her and sing old country songs with her. She is awesome. I would also have to add anything by Ms. Musgraves to your best list.

    ReplyDelete
  21. hahahah your list is awesome, especially love your commentary!! I can't stand Luke Bryan either. I don't get what everyone likes about him, really I don't. I do kinda like Crash my Party though, it's literally one of the only songs of his I won't skip over. And I like Redneck Crazy. I met Tyler Farr and he was awesome, so that may have something to do with it! hahah Hunter Hayes and Cole Swindell, I can't! >> LOVE Your favorites even more! I honestly don't know how I forgot about Drink to that all night and Hold On (such a beautiful song!) Miranda is so fierce it's insane! Love her! :)

  22. I love Crash My Party, probably because it is a good sing along song, and I host excellent car concerts. Other than that, I pretty much agree with everything on your list.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I thought I was the only one who HATED Darius Rucker's version of Wagon Wheel. This makes up for the fact that you hate Luke Bryan.

And I too had the thought that Redneck Crazy was giving country music a bad name. That and the pop remix of Cruise from Florida Georgia Line.

    ReplyDelete
  24. So, I agree with you on the Redneck Crazy song, but he actually has a new song out called Whiskey in my Water or something like that and it's GREAT!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I've only heard two of your worsts (and I agree) so I don't know about the other three, but I fully support all five of your tops. Miranda Lambert is almost always number one in my book.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am slowly starting to like country and I can totally agree on the worst songs too. I don't get the Luke Bryan thing, he is not that cute. Luke Owens totally wins that battle. Tough break on the Cole Swindell one because he is cute!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love me some country music, but we'll have to agree to disagree on these lists. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I totally agree with you about Darius singing Wagon Wheel! The first time I heard it I was like "Seriously?? Does he not have the creativity to make his own stuff?" I love Old Crow Medicine Show! Me and a girlfriend were talking about our favorite songs this summer and she said she liked "That wheel song by Darius Rucker" My mouth dropped open. She had never heard the Old Crow Medicine Show version! I questioned why we were friends.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have to admit I was fan of Wagon Wheel lol

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don’t even know how to word my comment. Your worst list makes me sad. I love all those songs <3 I love all the ones on the best list too. But that worst list…dagger through my heart. Except for Aagon Wheel. Agree on that. As a T Swift omission?!! I’m hoping that’s because you don’t consider her country…right? Right. Uggggggh. I can’t get over your hatred of Luke Bryan. I just saw him super duper up close at the ACA’s…So. Extremely. Hot.

    ReplyDelete
  31. do NOT get me started on the Old Crow Medicine Show rip off. it kills me. I saw them live a few years and they were amazing. That cover destroyed that song.

    ReplyDelete
  32. While I do disagree with you on some of your least favorites {Sorry, I love Mr. Bryan!} I do agree with your favorites 100%. Especially Miranda, I've loved her since the day I heard her first single & it's been an obsession ever since.

  33. I am country music obsessed also! I agree with your favorites but I gotta disagree with cole swindell and hunter Hayes, love those 2 songs. Downtown by lady A was on my top songs too!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nooo I love Luke and Hunter!!! But I'll admit those aren't my favorite songs of theirs. And I do love your best picks though, so I guess we can still be friends :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I absolutely LOVE All Kinds of Kinds. Like two weeks ago I had it on repeat like all day at work! But I'd have to disagree on Wagon Wheel- I love both version of that!

  36. I love seeing all the country music! I could have easily made my top songs all country too :) I like Luke Bryan songs, but I don't see the hotness that most girls do. And I absolutely love Lady A and Miranda :) Good choices!

  37. You hate the booty shaking Luke Bryan?? This video is a must watch. Don't worry you won't hear "his nostrils crying"!

  38. Awww, poor Luke! I do have to agree about his singing but I promise you he's a good guy and very worth of his success :) Cole (Swindell) used to work for Luke out on the road when he first started out... so strange to see him now have a song and upcoming album of his own!

And I'm sorry... so sorry... but I (not-so) secretly adore Hunter Hayes! Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ok... Luke Bryan has an amazing butt, but he can be way overplayed. But the butt, it's awesome. I agree with your top 5 though. All very good songs.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I HATE Redneck Crazy! I'm so glad someone else agrees. It's not REDNECK crazy. It's just plain psycho.
My favorite song Miranda did was Mama's Broken Heart!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yep, you win my favorite blogger of the year award. Don't get me wrong, Darius has some pretty good songs, but remakes I. Can't. Stand. And Miranda always wins. Always.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sarah. How can you hate Luke Bryan?! I take back the happy birthday wish I gave you yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I 100% agree with your number one worst, seriously what was that song?! There aren't many songs that make me turn the radio EVERY time they came on, but that one was one of them, I wanted to sit this guy down and explain to him how this was not the correct way to go about it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. We have the same worst song choice! I love your list, I do like Luke though, but we are pretty much country music soul twins!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm with you on Miranda!! She's a winner ALWAYS! And I agree about the Tyler Farr song, I've always hated it since it first came out. But girl, now you know I cannot agree with you on Luke Bryan!! haha

    ReplyDelete
  46. So glad to know that I'm not the only one that can't stand Luke Bryan! His songs are so lame! That's how country music gets such a bad rap!

    ReplyDelete
  47. You country girl, you!! I love Wagon Wheel! It's so fun to sing!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I too dislike somebody's heartbreak for the same reason..no one wants that feeling

    ReplyDelete
  49. I loved that you countrified this list considering it's 90% of what I listen to, even though I do like other genres as well. I also agree nearly 100% with this list except I can't help but love "Crash My Party".

    ReplyDelete
  50. Friends of mine who live in Atlanta have also divulged that Luke Bryan likes to cheat on his wife. So there's that.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks for introducing me to All Kinds of Kinds! Never heard it before but loved it, because it does takes all kinds of kinds.
