Playoffs? Who Needs Em

In true Sarah Webb fashion, it appears my Christmas decorations will be left up way too long, whether it be the lights on my porch, my purple pop up tree in the living room or this design on my blog. While yes, I think that the tree should probably come down, I just think lights are fun all year long. Why limit them to just December??

Any who, it is another edition of Fan Friday, the first of 2014 and while y'all are sitting around rooting for your teams in bowl games and gearing up for the NFL playoffs this weekend, I'm over here all, "Pass the vodka and a tissue please?"

As I may have mentioned once or two hundred times, my Vols were not bowl eligible and my Cowboys, well, "Pass the vodka and a tissue please?"

But really, I'm better than ok. I'm actually relieved that my teams aren't in any form of post season contention. Why you ask?

1. I won't break my diet-  you try watching a football playoff game and not eating chips and salsa, or pizza, or dip of any kind. You try, and let me know how that works out for you.

2. Ticket Weakness- It is true, I have a ticket weakness. Oh, it is a home game, I could go to that. $400 for two nose bleed tickets? Oh, I could swing that. I won't be able to eat for two and a half weeks or pay my utility bill, but who cares? Why, because my team is in THE PLAYOFFS BABY. Nothing is too expensive when you're in the playoffs.

3. I have my weekend free- Want to get some work done over the weekend, no problem! Want to shop till I drop (with my $400 saved on tickets) sure thing, bud! Gym session at 4pm on Sunday, absolutely. I'm free, free as a bird.

4. My life span has just been extended- I have no doubt in my mind that sports fans live shorter lives. Two words: Heart failure. My dad passed away, from you guessed it, heart failure. He was a talented NCAA college athlete, and sports fan to the core. Coincidence, I think not. So cheers, to two, maybe even three extra years of life tacked on for Miss Sarah Webb.

5. I'm out of reasons-  This list is BS. This totally sucks. Screw you people with teams left to root for, I'm moving to Antarctica where they don't have football. BYE.

Oh and if you wanted to vote for me in Helene's Best Blogger 2013 contest, that may make me feel a little better about not being in the playoffs... but it's whatever, I'm still moving to Antarctica. Is there wifi in Antarctica?

  1. hahahah omg i think you definitely have some good reasons, but knowing you this is a hard time. i will be over here rooting for no one because things I root for are raves and djs named avicii.

  2. You can root for my Seahawks... lol Sorry about the playoffs, hun, but seriously, think of all that money you saved!

  3. hahaha thank you for these thoughts and coping strategies. you may have saved the lives of the Raven's offensive line, because after last weekend... I want to kill them.

also, your link up is set for today at.... 10 PM. boooo

  4. My Colts are still in it but because they charge the cost of a new car for some good seats I may not even get to watch the game with the blackout. So maybe not being in the playoffs is a good thing? Enjoy your free weekends! :)

  5. I should totally take your advice/playoff-coping-ideas and start feeling the same... But somehow I still want to say "pass the vodka and a tissue, please." Cheers to not breaking the diet or the bank, I guess? :)

  6. I am deeply sorry that the Cowboys lost. I was hoping they would win. Now I just have to hope the 49r's can't play in -40* weather. ;)

  7. HA! I love this! My boyfriend is a diehard Cowboys fan but Im a Saints fan... so he has to sit through the playoff games that I want to watch now! Although I was rooting for the Cowboys last week, I would much rather have a game in Dallas than in the snow of Philly!

  8. After last night's Sugar Bowl I might move to Antarctica with you. That would be better than reading my facebook newsfeed right now.

  9. I felt this way during all of the bowl games....I mean honestly the Gators didn't get a bowl game....but wait yeah they only won 4 games....So sad!!!

  10. If it makes you feel any better at all, my Bears didn't make the playoffs either. STUPID PACKERS I HATE THEM. I bet Shannon is all kinds of happy-happy-joy-joy though, because her dumb team made the playoffs. I hate football. I'll move to Antarctica with you. NO JUST KIDDING I WON'T BECAUSE IT'S COLD THERE AND I HATE COLD SO LET'S GO SOMEWHERE ELSE LIKE MAYBE GREECE OR SOMETHING WHERE IT'S WARM.

  11. Playoffs? What are these playoffs of which you speak?!
    #5, higher draft pick.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You can sit next to me and the Giants if you'd like. How bout those draft picks though!?

    ReplyDelete
  13. you can cheer for the seahawks with me?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Firstly, I totally already voted for you =) Secondly I feel your pain about the no playoffs thing. Although, being in Arizona, I'm kind of used to it now over the last 5 years or so. BUT I will say, even though the Cardinals didn't make the playoffs and ASU lost their bowl game, I'm totally happy with it because things are looking up in AZ sports and I can't even be mad, cause we're making progress. Baby steps people!!

  15. In England you get 12 days after Christmas before it's weird not to take down you're things- so till Jan 7th. By that logic you're still fine! X

  16. HAHA! Hey, you've got to look at the bright side, right?

  17. My Buckeyes play tonight, and then I can calm the eff down...until February when I become crazy again until college basketball is over. So basically I'm only sane in the summer...good thing I can't get into baseball no matter how hard I try. Don't go to Antarctica...you may miss me in March ;)

  18. If this makes you feel any better I'm a Steelers and Alabama fan... so yeah... both epic teams blew it this year! Last night's bowl game was absolutely horrible. I'm totally pissed at my team and how they played. I'm actually really thankful the season is over for both my teams. Tomorrow my college alma mater is heading to their championship game (Towson University)... I want to watch but I'm almost fearful about it - you may need to pass the tissues and lots of vodka my way too!

My only saving grace is that the Ravens aren't in the playoffs either.

  19. You're right I had heart failure several times last night during the Sugar Bol, and now I may die from hearbreak after that terrible loss!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm pretty sure I came about as close to heart failure as you can get without actually have to go to the hospital on Sunday... being a Cowboys fan has some sad, sad days my friend.

  21. I feel you! Rooting for the Panthers left me feeling the same for years! Luckily we're in the playoffs and have a first round bye. I'm still a little flabbergasted that we've pulled this off. I'm sure our time in the playoffs will take a few years off my life though...

Especially, since I tried to buy tickets to our home game but they sold out in 3 minutes! I swear if those damn band-wagoners are the ones who took our tickets I'm gonna track them down myself!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am afraid you won't be a fan of my post today I kind of went in the opposite direction, but I am definitely jealous of the extra days of life you will be enjoying without the stress I know I will be in next weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh, the pain is so much worse when you live with someone who's team DID make the playoffs. I still have to watch it AND be subjected to nonstop gloating.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hahah I love this, especially #5 ;) I'm a ticket sucker too.I got talked in to going to the Packers Playoff game this weekend...there's a high of 0 degrees. I almost wish I could just watch it from the warmth of my living room, but the tickets were so cheap!

  25. Girl, I was rootin for your Boys to make it in. I'm a Jason Witten fan (even though he was hit or miss, mainly miss for me all fantasy season). I feel your pain... our family has been Bengals fans forever, including through the 90s when all we did was lose!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. It is seriously impossible to watch football without eating copious amounts of fried food and dips while washing it down with several beers. Yes... that'll be my weekend :-P

    ReplyDelete
  27. well, my husband isn't angry so that must mean the patriots made it? i'm so lost on football. but don't worry we'll have lots to talk about when we meet up. just not football. or if you want, i guess i can learn and ask my husband but all he'll tell me is patriot stuff and apparently, everybody hates them.

  28. Chargers made the playoffs! Yeah yeah! With lucky breaks and cheating…but we still made it! The weekend free thing…that kind of sucks for me. I have this fat test to study for that I take in 20 day. I will be losing at least 4 hours of study time to football. Ugh. Priorities.

  29. My husband is a Green Bay fan AND he got 2nd place in our fantasy football league....while I'm a Browns fan and won a whole 3 games all year for a solid last place. So yeah- not too upset that football season is over.

Plus now I'll stop drinking as much on Sundays. Maybe...

    ReplyDelete
  30. You completely reminded me to pay my utility bill - why is this not on auto pay yet?! I'm sure you'll still find some games to watch and good luck next year!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I enjoy your reasoning! You could root for the Seahawks with me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You can put all that football energy toward rooting for my deserving boy, Peyton Manning, with me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I hear you on that ticket weakness thing. Can you imagine if the Giants made it all the way? I'd easily be bankrupt.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ohio State is playing in the Orange Bowl tonight. I love football but I always forget how much of your weekend it take up too.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Awww! I'm sorry for you Sarah!! But you WILL save money this way!! :) Just don't get out any Cookie Dough Ice Cream to ease the pain...!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hahah... well done for trying to find the silver lining though! That counts for something. Happy New Year!!

  37. I'm out of the playoffs as well, as a fellow Cowboy fan and none of my fantasy teams made it. (I actually stopped playing in October)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Probably my favorite blog post...maybe ever. You make some valid points, but #5 is totally right. I'm a life-long Bengals fan, so I know the pain of missing the playoffs. My thoughts are with you. Feel free to join the Bengals' love train for the playoffs, if you're experiencing football withdrawal symptoms.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I feel your pain it's been since 2008 BUT we did make the playoffs this year!!! However, I'm sure if no one else gives us a beat down Seattle will happily hand us our asses on a platter.

  40. I'm a Steelers fan and a WV mountaineers fan so I def know where you are coming from on this one. I'll get my own bottle of wine but we can share the box of tissues.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You could move to Boston ;) Go PATS!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Wooooofffff I cannot even speak about football right now. At least Chicago has Cutler for 7 more years, since he was just so irreplaceable this year.

    ReplyDelete
  43. ::pours one out for my homie Venus:: When I heard the news about Romo I thought of you, totally normal, right?! Side note: can we just talk about the abundance of TV time that Candice Romo got this season? Totally bananas. Any way, my Saints are on the road in Philly this week so I'll be stress eating like a mofo, so much for my New Year "diet."

    ReplyDelete
  44. Atleast you can still cheer for the Saints ;)

    ReplyDelete
  45. haha I love the comment from the Bears fan, since I am a die hard Packers fan that game was THE BEST!!! Of course now we lost to the stupid 49ers in Lambeau. But now I won't frighten or scar my child from my screaming and swearing anymore...until next year :)
