Oh! Canada!

Home Sweet Home!

Sort of. When I got to my car after getting of the airplane I found out that my relatively new car would not start. So after waiting until 8pm for a tow truck last night to tow me to the Hyundai dealership, and taking the dart train from downtown to the suburbs of Farmers Branch this morning and then walking from the dart station to the office, I'm currently not in the best of moods. Oh, did I mention Hyundai seems to think it will take DAYS to fix my car? Yay.

Although I've had a rough 18ish hours, Canada sure was good to this American girl! Good food, good times, oddly enough, even good shopping! Even though the flight to Canada from Dallas is as short as a flight to Miami, there are some pretty big differences between the two countries! I almost forgot that their money was different. Luckily, the cashiers gladly accepted my American money!

With one more stamp in the ole passport, and six more days of memories under my slightly expanded belt, it was a great work trip! I want to warn you before you read the rest of this post, I fell off the diet wagon Friday-Sunday. So if you are even remotely hungry, I wouldn't continue to read this post because there are some mouth watering dishes you are about to see.

Let's just say I didn't do the best job of packing. Look at my luggage compared to the guy I was traveling with... Oopsies! But for real, you never know what you may need so better to be safe is how I always see it.

Like I posted on Friday, I underestimated the Toronto weather. That first night in town country, I was dressed all adorable and junk. Well, let me tell you, that fell by the wayside faster than you can say hockey puck. I got smarter and traded my now dirty salt covered Sam Edleman boots in for my 10 year old Ugg boots that normally a restricted for home use only and dinner in a de-icing scalding hot bathtub.

The first day of the boat show setup we had to walk through slush and snow to get to the conference center. If you will recall from Friday, I promptly received frostbite (not really) from my Adidas hole filled tennis shoes.

After a full day of heavy lifting (again, not really) we headed out to eat dinner, and by eat dinner I mean drink dinner.

Ok, so it was up until this point that I was a healthy eating winner. I made the right choices, got dressing on the side, asked them to hold mayo on sandwiches, subbed veggies for the fries.... like I said up until this point. Starting on Friday night all that went out the window, and you'll see why....

At each meal we went out to over the weekend, we did our best to share the dishes we ordered with the whole table, so we could all try something different.

I do not eat Curry, for reasons I'm assuming are obvious as to why people don't eat curry. But I thought this sign was still cute.

But then there was my favorite meal.... oh my goodness my favorite meal. The meal of all meals took place after the boat show on Sunday. I was told not to eat lunch, and I can understand why. I ate enough to kill a large elephant. After the show ended, we packed up and headed out for some Korean BBQ!

Thank the good lord for these two, because I had no idea what in the world was going on at this place, and they just took charge and started grillin!

And then after dinner we ran into a line of about 200 people who didn't have any pants on, and I couldn't help but feel a little jealous wishing I didn't have any pants on because I. WAS. STUFFED.

Can you see them? Yeah, no pants.

Well as I go feel sorry for myself and my car troubles the rest of this day, go wish my girl Helene a happy 6th anniversary of her 21st birthday :)

  15. The no pants thing was for the No pants Subway ride, it is an annual event, they ride the subway and then go for a drink, ( started in 2002 in UK and now it is in 60 locations). I love that you had steam whistle and a ceasar. You probably did not get to the Steam whistle brewery but if you ever get back to Toronto you have to go, Looks like the trip ended up alright. Come back soon

  21. You needed those extra calories so you wouldn't freeze to death. Obviously.

  22. Well I'm glad the food, the people and the overall experience was good to you! The weather is just plain cold in most places here in Canada!
That huuuuuge burger looked stinkin' amazing. I bet the Korean BBQ was ridiculous. I would love to try something like that one day.

  25. You have the worst luck with cars! Saturday was No Pants Day. Here we ride the subways sans pants. I do not partake. I'm pro no-pants but preferably at home. Korean BBQ looks amazing! Like fondue but with grills!

  26. Looks like you are having a fun time, even though it started off kind of rocky. :]

I wonder why those guys didn't have any pants...

  27. I was a healthy eating winner for about 2 weeks thanks to myfitnesspal. I substituted Greek yogurt for just about everything and lied to myself that it tasted the same as buttermilk ranch. Now only if I could just lie to myself again and put the sour cream, ranch and mayo away. :/ I really just need to sign up for another 5k to motivate myself.

  28. Looks like a great trip! Canada is on my travel bucket list, and as I'm living in Chicago right now I really don't have any excuses for not having been. Also, that food looks delicious. Diets are way overrated anyway.

  29. I ALWAYS overpack, and my boyfriend makes fun of me for it. But I refuse to see the day that I don't have the right outfit for whatever that day brings.

  30. That Korean BBQ place looks fantastic! And while I'm sure you wanted to jump right in and take off your pants, I think the additional frostbite you might have received would have definitely had you thinking otherwise. :) Oh, and about the packing ... a girl's got to have options!

  31. How fun!! I love Toronto! I was there this summer and also stayed by Yonge-Dundas Square. We also went to Steam Whistle brewery!

  41. What a great time in Canada, sorry about your car tho. Just wondering where in Canada is this? I love traveling when the doctor clears me. I would only be able to go to Vancouver or Toronto on my works bill. I would love to see other places on my own.

  42. Boo on you for never getting a chance to blate with Kathy and I!

The place right beside that Korean BBQ place is one of my favourite places to eat in Toronto. The food is so cheap, the portions are huge and it tastes so good! It's run by the same people who run the Korean BBQ.

    Ah, Toronto. I love thee.

  43. I'm terrible about overpacking. I always say I'll do a better job and then 2 hours later I'm at the airport with an overweight bag!! I so want to go to Canada and get another stamp on my passport :) Sorry to hear about the car stuff too... my husband's hyundai has been in the shop for a week and a half and we're finalllllly getting it back today!!!
