Happy 2014 folks! Based on the heaping amount of traffic I faced this morning, it appears that all of the Dallas work force is back in, well, full force today! I had a low key New Years Eve, but I thought I would share it with you anyways because I cooked and made specialty cocktails and I'm really really darn proud of myself. (Warning, these are not weight watcher approved cocktails, but that is why they give you extra weekly points, right?!)
I went to Party City on New Years Eve, in other related news, I'm an idiot. I grabbed the 4 items they had left on the shelf which included a bag of 100 party noise blowers (what will I ever do with 100 of these?), two light up bow ties, one for each pup, and the only party hat I could find that wasn't crushed to death.
If there is anything I've learned about cooking, it's that you get much better after a martini or two (or 3 or 4). But, that could be why I set the fire alarm off. Ah well, when in Rome!
So here are the cocktails I whipped up to ring in the new year!
The French Pear Martini:
What you need:
1 1/2 ounces St. Germain
1 1/2 ounces Pear Vodka
Champagne (ice cold of course)
If you want a prettier martini than mine you can add a sugar rim and pear slice as a garnish!
Instructions:
So I guess I was really into French stuff? This is called the French 75 and I got it out of my favorite cocktail book Mrs. Lilien's Cocktail Swatchbook which I feel every girl should have on her bar cart!
The French 75:
What you need:
1 1/2 oz Gin (my favorite of course)
Half oz simple syrup
Champagne
The juice squeezed from one lemon
1 sugar cube
1 maraschino cherry
Place sugar cube in the bottom of a champagne flute. In your cocktail shaker, combine gin, simple syrup and lemon. Shake shake shaaaaaaaaaaaaake. Strain into your champagne flute, then fill up the rest of your flute with Champagne. Top with your cherry, sip and smile!
Happy 2014 Loves!
