If You Give A Dog A GoPro....

As any good dog parent knows, it is against the rules to play favorites with your pups. I have a very special little boy at home though, and his name is General Neyland --- or Gee for short. Gee is 7 years old, and I can't help but want to root for him a little bit harder than I should. Like most hound dogs, Gee lives life at a bit of a slower pace. He is patient, sweet and you just can't help but want to stand in his corner.

Some dogs are greedy -- *cough* Veenie *cough* -- the second you stop petting, they want and will demand more pets, pronto. General on the other hand is simply thankful for the pets that he did receive, and when you stop, will continue his round-the-clock protection for the family from squirrels that dare enter our yard.

Everyone loves an underdog, and Gee is certainly that when he is paired up with Veenie. Besides, do you have any idea HOW MANY SQUIRRELS HE HAS PROTECTED ME FROM OVER THESE YEARS??!? Can you even fathom where I'd be today if I didn't have General to scare them off? The thought is too scary to even think about.

Most dogs tend to calm down and relax a bit more as they get older, but things are a bit different for Gee these past few months. After spending 7 years living in an apartment, Gee now has a giant fenced in yard to torment all of the squirrels who dare step foot in his kingdom.

Gee has protected me for 7 years now, so I owe him that same protection. Up until recently, I've always fed both of my dogs the exact same food. Now that General is getting older, he needs a food made specifically for dogs his age. I need Gee alert and sharp, because the squirrels these days aren't messing around and I need my number one guard dog to be at his very best. So we headed to PetSmart to see what we could find!

I've started to make the switch to Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND, which is designed to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs 7+. As much as I hate to say this, dogs are actually considered "senior" by the time they reach 7. Gee is at the age where the glucose metabolism in his brain can begin to change, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision making.  Within 30 days of switching to Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND, you'll start to see a change in your pup's alertness and mental sharpness.

So here's just an open letter to that squirrel that tip toes across our fence: you better watch out for that beagle in the yard as he makes this transition to Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND. I'd turn back if I were you...

Not only do I NEED to have General in tip top shape for squirrel protection, but also for our many adventures through Dallas. One of CB's and my favorite restaurants is a place called Monkey King Noodle in Deep Ellum. It's just a food stand,  and dog friendly. Last weekend before the big game, we brought Gee with us for a walk around Deep Ellum, followed by some delicious noodles.

(The noodles were for hoomans, not beagles)

Purina Pro Plan was kind enough to send Gee his very own GoPro, which I told him is not for watching squirrel game tape, but rather to see his progress as he transitions to his Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND. After the transition, then MAYBE we can talk about using it for squirrel game tape. Maybe.

We even worked on compiling a video of our adventures over the weekend for you guys. Now be nice to us, this is our very first time editing video. Gee had originally listed on his resume that he was very proficient with iMovie, but as we began to edit, it was clear he was just trying to get the job. That's ok, I still love him.

We'll return in a couple of weeks with an update on his progress as he makes the switch to Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND

  3. He is so sweet & adorable! I really want to strap our GoPro to one of our cats, but I don't know if they would be as cooperative haha.

  4. He is too cute. Can't wait to see more of his adventures. Not sure if a GoPro would be good or not for my cat. She is constantly jumping or chasing something so might turn out more like the Blair Witch project giving you motion sickness

  11. What a great post! I suspected I knew where Gee's name came from, and his shirt confirmed it. I love that he is the ultimate guard dog against those pesky squirrels, too! We have two older dogs in our house, and I'll have to check out this food. Thanks! #client

  13. Gee is adorable! I love how the camera goes all wild when he shakes. I think Starla, my dog, is a bit more like Veenie. If you stop petting her for a second, she will paw at you until you continue. So neeeeeeeeedy!
