The Healing Power of Dogs + #NominateAVeteran

This post is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, a world-leading animal health company providing a comprehensive range of products to enhance the health and well-being of dogs, but all opinions are my own. Please see below for additional disclosure.

I made the mistake of getting way too deep in a comment thread today where people were just looking for a reason to be angry, and share their anger (and bad grammar) with the world.

It turned out to be a good thing though, because it reminded me of my favorite quote of all time, "Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate."

Now that is a good way to live your life.

So, today, I want to promote something I love with you guys. I’m teaming up with the HEARTGARD® Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) team and Warrior Canine Connection® (WCC), who are joining forces to help bring the healing power of dogs to Service Members, Veterans and their families.

Because my Dad was a Veteran and I’m an owner of two rescue pups, this campaign is near and dear to my heart.

From now to June 30, the HEARTGARD Plus team is offering consumers nationwide the opportunity to nominate a deserving U.S. Service Member or Veteran to win an all-expense-paid trip to Nashville and a year’s supply of HEARTGARD Plus for their dog. Veterans can be nominated on heartgardians.com or via Twitter® or Instagram® by using the hashtags #NominateAVeteran and #Sweepstakes. For every nomination, the HEARTGARD Plus team will donate $10 to WCC. The HEARTGARD Plus team will contribute up to $100,000 to WCC in 2017.

My Dad passed away when I was 19, so anything I can do to help honor his legacy, I'll do it! I obviously can't nominate him to win this, but I'm hoping you all have someone in mind who deserves this top prize!

Not to mention, every purchase of HEARTGARD® Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) in 2017 helps to further our support of WCC. WCC offers canine-assisted therapy to Service Members and Veterans affected by the invisible wounds of war. With your participation, the HEARTGARD Plus team will help WCC continue its mission of helping U.S. Service Members and Veterans reconnect with life, their families, their communities and each other through the healing power of the human-animal bond.

For this incredible honor, I’d like to nominate a Veteran on behalf of my dear friend Lisa. Lisa volunteers at an animal shelter and met a Veteran named David who served two tours in Vietnam. He is retired now after working many years following his service. His best friend, companion and helper is Maggie, his German Shepherd. Together, they completed donated training at Off Leash K9 so that she could be a well behaved emotional support animal for David.

Venus and General got me through some of the most lonely times in my life (my first few years in Dallas), and I can only imagine the comfort trained warrior canines can provide. Those two dogs make me feel like I have a purpose in this world, and for that I will forever be grateful to them.

I'd be so grateful if you'd take a moment today and nominate a veteran deserving of the prize. Remember, for every nomination, the HEARTGARD® Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel) team will donate $10 to WCC. The HEARTGARD Plus team will contribute up to $100,000 to WCC in 2017.
